John Broughton born January 14, 1855 at Rotherhithe, London, England died January 9, 1942 in England. Married Mary Alice Lamming born March 1, 1855 died February 2, 1933

Came to Canada in 1905 and homesteaded near Bowden. Constructed his first combined machine shop and residence on 52 Street in 1906. In 1912 the business expanded with a foundry and in 1914 added a power hack saw and grinder. The name changed to J.W. Broughton & Son

Colin was killed in action on July 26, 1916 at the front near Ypres. He is buried in the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground near Zillebeke, Belgium. Born March 15, 1891 at Grimsby, England.
